The early years foundation stage says:
Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community.
The frequency and range of children’s personal experiences increases their knowledge and sense of the world around them – from visiting parks, libraries and museums to meeting important members of society such as police officers, nurses and firefighters.
In addition, listening to a broad selection of stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems will foster their understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world. As well as building important knowledge, this extends their familiarity with words that support understanding across domains.
Enriching and widening children’s vocabulary will support later reading comprehension.
Understanding the world
The breadth of the topic ‘understanding the world’ provides many opportunities to introduce children to awe and wonder, different communities and the wonders of the world around them.
RAFAKidz hopes that our parents and / or carers and station personnel will choose to be involved in all kinds of projects to build things and show us how things work. Children will have access to a range of technology from information technology such as using simple computer programmes as well as using real things such as the microwave and toaster. We also introduce children to different texts and print including non-fiction to broaden their knowledge.
RAFAKidz will promote equality and diversity through every engagement with the children. RAFAKidz team members teach children about British Values: to respect each other, learn, understand and tolerate differences as well as behave well.
